My goal is to create a tension; a tension that stems from the relation between illusion and reality. The painting itself is an illusion. There is the illusion of space through perspective, the illusion of form through color and value. The format of a square within a square is meant to push against the parts of the painting where illusion is happening, to remind the viewer that it is a two-dimensional space. My hopes are to guide the viewer into further investigation into the painting. To question or reevaluate what was just seen.
