Italy Trip Summer ’09

In summer of ’09 I went to Florence, Italy where I attended Santa Reparata International School of the Arts (SRISA).  This trip was truly a pilgrimage for the artist in me.  I was essentially going home.

I took an egg tempera class where I learned how to make my own paint using water, pigment powder, and egg yolk.  I also learned how to make gesso and how to apply gold leaf.  You can see the pieces I made in the class!

I also took a Renaissance Art History class.  This was a great experience to be learning about all of this from an expert Art Historian who has been living in Florence all her life.  It was very different from any Art History class I have taken at UW-Milwaukee because instead of meeting in a classroom every day, we would meet up at a nearby cathedral or museum to learn about these masterpieces standing right in front of them!

During our stay in Italy we took a few weekend trips to places like Sienna, Venice, and Cinque Terra.  I hope you enjoy my pictures :)
